Aggressive Road Rage Crash on California Highway

Last week, alleged road rage triggered a multiple vehicle crash on a highway in California. And it was all caught on video.

47-year-old Chris Taber was riding in the passenger seat when he noticed a motorcyclist pass them in the fast lane. A silver sedan that had been in the carpool lane quickly swerved to the left to enter the fast lane, nearly hitting the motorcyclist.

Taber said the sedan’s swerve obviously scared the motorcyclist and he saw both drivers begin a heated argument with aggressive hand gestures. The motorcyclist got close enough to the sedan and kicked the driver side passenger door. The sedan reacted by swerving to the left, slightly colliding with the motorcyclist, then lost control and crashed into the highway divider. Uncontrollable, the sedan went speeding into the middle of the highway, where it hit a Cadillac pickup truck. The truck quickly flipped over in the middle on the highway.

Taber said he began recording when he saw the the obvious argument become heated, while both vehicles were continuing to drive at high speeds. Taber also said, “Yeah, it was like…what the heck is going on with these people. I don’t know if the driver of the car got scared or freaked out like ‘what am I supposed to do now’ or intentionally tried t run him off the road.”

Luckily, the driver of the truck, 75-year-old Carols Benavidez, only suffered a gash on his head and is recovering. Benavidez said,  “I saw my world coming to an end…to be honest with you. When I felt the impact and the truck spun out from beside me and I started to roll, I saw nothing but asphalt and sky.”

The Motorcyclist Fled the Scene

After the automobile collisions, the motorcyclist did not stop and continued driving down the highway. The police are actively following leads to identify him. The driver of the sedan stayed on the scene and has not been issued a citation.
